April 24 is this year’s FASHION REVOLUTION day. We are planning some activities at the NMS school campus of P30 to increase our students’ awareness towards the unjust textile industry’s working conditions in third world countries.

We ask all members of our school community to wear their clothes inside out on that day – to make the production labels a target to look at and to find out about the origin of the garments.

Between 11.30 a.m. and 2 p.m., we will set up 8 to 12 sewing machines in the schoolyard of P30 and have students produce upcycled shirts and bags, fusing all kinds of existing garments and creating unique fashion :-).

We are supported by two experts so far: Mrs. Ursula Nadolph, who is a professional tailor and runs the tailoring workshop on Tuesday afternoon and Mr. Wilfried Pletzinger, who is an upcycling fashion designer (www.w-pletzinger.com). Both of them will support the students and Wilfried will present some of his work and explain his ideas.

We will be informed by several IB students about the unjust situation of textile production. Participating students and interested visitors will be asked to take a quiz, they can participate in discussions and watch informative films.

We are inviting classes from P23 and B24 to visit the school's fashion revolution events at P30.

Due to the alarming circumstances of unjust fashion production, we would like to inspire the school community to upcycle their existing clothes, swap garments or buy their outfits second hand before purchasing something new.

Special thanks goes to Mrs. Annett Borg for helping to prepare the fashion revolution day at our school!

Parents: we need help sewing and additional sewing machines :-) thanks a million!
